CARMEL VALLEY, Calif. —The Monterey County Sheriff's Department expanded a mandatory evacuation order Sunday afternoon.
Residents on Rocky Creek Road, Old Coast Road and Bixby Creek Road from Highway 1 south to Middle Road are required to evacuate immediately.
Residents in the Rancho San Carlos, White Rock and San Rancho Clemente areas were asked Sunday to be prepared to leave if a mandatory evacuation was ordered for their area.

Due to the potential spread of the fire to the south of its current location, fire and law enforcement officials have also issued a pre-evacuation warning for Highway 1 and Old Coast Road from Little Sur River to Andrew Molera State Park.

A warning is used to notify residents that there is a possibility that an evacuation maybe necessary in the future.
The fire, which began about 8:30 a.m. Friday, has scorched 10,262 acres and is 5 percent contained.
Roughly 1,650 homes were threatened as of Sunday morning, Cal Fire officials said.
Area closures
Palo Colorado and Western Ridge roads at Highway 1 were closed Saturday. Toro Park closed Sunday to allow Cal Fire to use the park as a base camp.
Evacuation warnings
Carmel Highlands, Rancho San Carlos, White Rock and Rancho San Clemente are under a pre-evacuation warning.
Big Sur residents in the Palo Colorado Canyon neighborhood evacuated Friday evening. Those residents are waiting to hear when they can return to their homes, as of Sunday afternoon.
Shelter
A temporary shelter has been established at Carmel Middle School on Carmel Valley Road. The SPCA for Monterey County is also there, helping to take care of people and their pets.
