A masked man dressed in black opened fire after walking out of a convenience store and car wash in the Louisiana city, according to local reports.
The gunman remains on the loose and residents in the area have been told to stay indoors.
The officers have been taken to a hospital, a police spokesman Don Coppola told ABC television affiliate WAFB.
Coppola had no information on the extent of injuries.
The shooting comes a day after civil rights leaders and race campaigners joined hundreds of mourners for the funeral of Alton Sterling, who was shot dead by Baton Rouge police.

Shooting follows protests
The shooting comes a week after a wave of protests against police violence in Baton Rouge and other cities.The demonstrations followed the death of a black father of five who was shot and killed at close quarters by law enforcement officers.
Alton Sterling, 37, was gunned down by the white officers earlier this month after a scuffle at a convenience store.
At one of the recent protests in Dallas, a gunman opened fire on white officers assigned to the protest, killing five of them.

Two cops confirmed dead
Two cops have been confirmed dead in the wake of the shooting.The Baton Rouge police officers were killed in the horrific attack, William Daniel, the city-parish’s chief administrative officer, told The Advocate.
Their identities remain unknown.
Officials had earlier said that up to eight cops were gunned down down, with at least three feared dead.

SWAT teams arrive
SWAT teams have been dispatched to the scene.WBRZ reporter Michael Vinsanau tweeted: “State Police SWAT now on scene.”
He later added: “Within the last minute, at least a dozen marked and unmarked police units have flown by.”

Pictures are emerging from the scene of the shooting.The attack reportedly occurred just than one mile from the Baton Rouge police headquarters.
The number of victims, and the extent of their injuries, are currently unknown.
'Eight officers shot'
One Twitter user claims eight officers have been shot.Of these, at least one is believed to be dead.
User Kelsei LuBom tweeted: “8 officers shot. 2 dead. 1 in critical condition.”
She added: “Whoever it was they was shooting indiscriminately.
“My aunt is a emergency nurse at the lake (an apparent reference to Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center) & she told me at least 6 are there now.”
