Many Russians believe a major war is imminent, and that's the way Putin likes it.
Senior Russians talk about not IF but WHEN there is going to be a major war.

Do I agree with this?
It isn't really about what I agree with or not it is what Russians believe is true in the end.
Even if every American believed a bloody war with Russia could be avoided, if most Russians in the Russian military believed it was necessary and prepared for it, it wouldn't really matter what Americans thought at all would it?
Because it would be a lot like Hitler in World War II.

It should.
Here's the logic of taking over Crimea as they have already done in Russia.
They wanted to have a road to take trucks closer to Syria where Russia has it's ONLY warm water port.
So, Russia's military logic in taking over Crimea from Ukraine was to be better able to supply their troops in Syria. Also, many Russians over the years (about 50,000 of them) have intermarried with Syrians and so have directly or indirectly become a part of the Syrian Culture itself. So, in some ways at this point Syria is a colony of Russia. Then also, Iran is an ally of Russia against all Sunni nations.
And then you have maybe Russia's long term goal which I believe is to take revenge on all Sunni nations especially Saudi Arabia for lowering the price of Gasoline in the late 1980s which helped Russia go Bankrupt as the Soviet Union. And Putin as a KGB Colonel in East Germany in the 1980s still wants revenge against the United States, Europe and especially Saudi Arabia in the near future while Putin is still president. (which might not be for long) (we'll see how it goes).
So, the actual logic of Putin may just be: Revenge on the U.S., Europe and Saudi Arabia for the collapse of the Soviet Union. And this is likely why Trump is president in the U.S. now too.
