mountaineers reunion of Sorts

In 1969 and 1970 my friend from the Saint Germain Foundation then that I met when I was 14 and he 11 were then I think 18 and 22 or thereabouts we met the then caretaker of Horse Camp Sierra Club Emergency Lodge that is manned usually between about April or May to about October when it starts to get snowed in there. People still stay there sometimes in emergencies at tree line so they don't die from the weather on the mountain other times of the year. For example, on my 25th Birthday I took my guitar and rented Snow shoes  and hiked up in April or Early May to Horse camp. This would have been April or May 1973. At that time only the very tip of the Chimney was visible because of the depth of the snow. I had to dig down enough to even dig a path to open the door to the Lodge then. And I stayed there several days alone with the mountain then for my birthday which was a remarkable experience while I wrote and played music there by myself several miles from the nearest human being at that time.

Tonight, two of the caretakers in the 1960s and 1970s of the Lodge (from April to October usually) met along with one of the top speed climbers of the mountain in the 1970s who I believe had the record for fastest climb from Horse Camp then for several years time. I was never a caretaker of Horse CAmp Lodge or ever had the fastest climb of the mountain. That wasn't me. However, I have known all these men since at least 1969 and two of them I have known for longer. one since I was 5 years old who I met at Shasta Springs in 1953 and one I met when I was 14 which would be in 1962.

So, It was a great experience for us all sharing our experiences of having fun and sometimes almost dying in different adventures on Mt. Shasta and other peaks in the U.S. many of us have climbed over the years.
