Which is a lot of snow for any town to deal with all at once. In Mt. Shasta what they usually do is to plow the snow into the center of the roads and let it melt there. This might not work for other places but it usually does here in Northern California because the ground is warmer than most other places it snows. This is the best way to put this.
For example, Mt. Shasta city is at around 3500 feet but the ground usually doesn't freeze that much until you get up to 4000 to 5000 feet altitude this time of year. So, this means that if you plow the snow into the center of the road so cars can drive by on both sides, it usually will begin to melt off within a day or two in town there.
Also, usually the best skiing (so it isn't so freezing all the time) is between March and June depending upon how much snow they get. So, if you like to ski Mt. Shasta likely the next week or two might be the best skiing this year on the mountain there. However, more storms could also keep coming in so keep track of what the weather is doing if you want to drive there.
The following Caltrans notification says to me that they have plowed and rocked interstate 5 and it is open without chains (but they might prefer you to have all weather tires or snow tires on your vehicle and it might be better with all wheel drive or 4 wheel drive but likely you should carry chains in case you get into a hairy (difficult) situation if you have only a 2 wheel drive vehicle. All these things are subject to change in a moment if a semi truck jackknives on the slippery roads for example.
