Sort of like if you have ever seen an Eagle or Hawk or other predatory bird pull in it's wings for a dive of a thousand feet or more then push out their wings when they reached the right altitude, similarly by actually changing the shape of the wing you increase potential speeds of that wing while preventing problems that can come from drag created by normal control surfaces. So, you increase efficiency in all aspects of flying by bending the wings instead of control surfaces. So, the wings actually also become the control surfaces by doing this too.
This possibly could eventually be the future of aviation and the primary good thing about this is likely much less fuel would be used during takeoffs and landings. Takeoffs usually burn the most fuel by the way in the first ten minutes or so after takeoff by trying to overcome gravity, inertia and friction to reach a high enough altitude to cruise at a relatively constant speed.
