Because it has awareness just like you do. It suffers just like you do. In that sense all living things in the universe suffer together. But, we don't just suffer together here in the Universe, we also live together here in the past, present and future of the whole universe too.
We suffer together, we live together, we die together. This tends to make all beings in the universe family if you think about it.
Some people expect only joy all their lives. If they do they will be disappointed.
Some people expect only suffering all their lives. If they do they will die young or go crazy.
Some people know that there is both joy and suffering in life and so prepare for both ongoing.
These are the ones who can find happiness if they are realistic enough.
This is what life is about.

Only the brave in the end make their lives work. A coward dies a thousand deaths but a hero dies but once.
