What does it mean to say that machines will make pets of people?

It only means that when intellectually computers and machines are more intelligent than people they will tend to "manipulate" and mess with people the way Sociopaths do that are very intelligent sort of like Hitler and Mussolini and other dictators did in history. Morality and ethics and mores are not directly programmed into computers and machines yet (at least at this point).
