Here are some things that I have done all my life that helped lead to my sanity and my health. Playing music and singing and writing both prose and poetry and lyrics to songs. I think maybe the single most important thing is being as honest as you can with yourself (and with people you can trust enough to tell them the truth)(but this is often a very hard decision because people change over time).
Some people are perfectly sane and your friend when you tell them things and then they go through some kind of crisis with themselves, others or with you and everything changes. It's hard to know when or if this is going to happen too.
There is a Tibetan Saying I like which describes this the best:
"Friends become enemies and enemies become friends. Therefore the best way is to be as kind as possible to all beings all the time."
Because "your friends are just as likely to kill you as your enemies". And this is a hard thing to realize in life for any of us.
So, being adventurous and brave and kind always seems to be the best way to go through life. It has always worked for me.
