Beaumont where the Apple Fire Started is the beginning of the desert when leaving Los Angeles and Orange county

When I lived in Glendale and went to the desert where my father and I built a house Starting in 1968 on 2 1/2 acres of land on Yucca Mesa above Yucca Valley it was in between Yucca Valley and Landers where the old Giant Rock Airport used to be when Van Tassel owned it. I went to a Flying Saucer convention at Giant Rock Airport in Fall of 1969 by the way there.

Beaumont is sort of the start where more like desert plants start to grow. Also Beaumont is at the foot of a huge mountain (The tallest in Southern California) called Mt. San Gorgonio which I climbed with friends in November or December of 1969 in the deep snow with snowshoes then. I  almost didn't make it back from that climb. When I finally made it back to my car at about 9 or 10 pm the Forest Rangers had already gathered a rescue team to go search for me then. The two other members of my climbing team were too young and had taken a different trail without telling me when they went ahead. So, I took a longer route looking for them and it almost cost me my life because I was 21 and much more responsible than they were for the group. a climbing team is only as strong and as safe as the weakest member. And the younger a team member is the less safe the whole team is.

You can look up from the little city of Beaumont and see San Gorgonio peak if it is a clear day. I'm hoping this fire doesn't burn too much of the wilderness area of San Gorgonio mountain because the mountain is so steep some places that any rains after that could bring down a lot of rocks like it did in Montecito if it burns up towards San Gorgonio peak too much.

This area especially Slushy Meadows should be saved for posterity if possible because it is one of the most beautiful wilderness areas in Southern California as you can see by these google photos:
