Why? It's true we want to get rid of West Nile Virus. But, the problem is we are dealing with ecosystems which are based upon balance points and humans have already screwed up so many balance points we presently are dealing with a pandemic which is caused directly by human mucking around with things they shouldn't muck around with.
750 million genetically altered mosquitos might do almost anything to the ecosystem in the short or long term. This is a given.
We don't know who it's going to help or who it's going to kill but it is going to change something major and we don't know the long or short term consequences of doing this.
And that's the problem. Because ecosystems are all about balance points and some things once you throw them out of balance you're just screwed permanently and that's all she wrote as in human extinction or extinction of many species in addition to human beings as well.
