Ash on the Deck and a Red Sun

Luckily, we made it safely back to where we live on the Northern California coast. Luckily where we live at least right now the ocean breezes (prevailing winds off the ocean) tend to blow the smoke inland. But, another thing that is good is that it's way up high too so when we arrived we didn't smell smoke at all but the Sun was not just orange (light smoke) but red(really heavy smoke and sometimes you couldn't see the sun at all through the smoke above us. Once in a while last night or this morning I could smell the smoke because I opened a screened window for air but mostly ever since we got here no smoke along the ground at all so we have been very very lucky.

We missed a good night's sleep the night before we decided to drive back home to the coast from our friends' mountain cabin while they were back East with their parents. We had a level of peace I cannot remember except for maybe when I was on Maui and Kauai last Fall with my wife and another couple snorkeling and touring the islands.

Anyway you can get some peace for awhile considering what we might be facing next from September until next April or May might be a good idea so you don't go stark raving mad when this all might get much worse as more and more people around the world in the Northern Hemisphere die from a combination of coronavirus and the normal deadly flus worldwide during the next 9 months or so while some schools are open.

I personally am very very worried for ANY school that is open (and all the teachers and the students and all their relatives and friends) during the next 9 months anywhere on earth.

One possible solution is (student-teacher pods) of no more than 10 to 20 students in a pod away from any school where infections can take off. This way only those 10 to 20 students and a teacher interact. This is an especially good idea in Countries where internet connections are few and far between and students cannot afford (or school districts cannot afford computers or Ipads and the like) for remote online education of students.
