time watching the first 1/2 but my wife insisted because I had already seen the one with
Gwyneth Paltrow years ago. But, by 1/2 through this cast sucked me
in again to the romanticism of this historical period. I'm not sure
I could have survived the extreme level of politeness if I had to
live then in this particular elitist society. But, once you get
into all this it is sort of addicting to watch how they all interact in
this time period in the early 1800s of England countryside life of
the upper middle class or above. I especially loved the dancing
and songs of this era and the art as well. The actors did an amazing job with this movie too which is somewhat different than
the Gwyneth Paltrow movie which was made in 1996. Looking back
I like both versions I have seen of this movie now. This is a must
for Jane Austen fans by the way.
I went to England and Scotland in 1999 with my then 10 year old daughter and then in 2011 with my younger daughter and wife and older daughter and her boyfriend. It's quite an amazing place with
an infinite amount of history (both Scotland and England). My mother's mother was born in the U.S. in 1888 in Philadelphia but raised in Scotland after their home in Philadelphia burned down where
her parents were originally from. And the same with her husband who was born in Boston and then his father died and he had to return at age 8 with his mother and sister and brother to Scotland where he met my grandmother and they all returned to the U.S. where they both had been born of Scottish parents. After their marriage they lived the rest of their lives with their children here in
the U.S.
