Between the ages of 2 and 25 a whole lot of bad things happened to me which I likely could not have survived if I wasn't as reasonable and as logical as I am in regard to classifying everything in my life using the scientific method.
I'm now 72 and having a father who loved Nicola Tesla and Edison and technology helped a lot too. Because he imbued me with a very methodical way of approaching reality. If you work as an electrician either you are methodical or you are soon dead. My father trained me to be an electrician starting when I was 12. Outside of being temporary blind when my screwdriver burnt in half from 440 volts when I was around 14 or 15 I survived all that okay. We were working on the KCET public broadcasting station I remember and I couldn't get the wire into the main panel that was the size of my finger in size even with a pair of pliers and a screw driver (AND THEN MY SCREWDRIVER SLIPPED) and it burned in half and spattered the metal of the screwdriver all over my face that was now liquid and burning hot. Luckily, human reflexes at 14 o5 15 are very fast so it didn't put my eyes out and just burned little spots into my face temporarily where the droplets of liquid metal that arc welded exploded into my face. But, the flash blinded me temporarily so my father grabbed my arm because we were making repairs hot to 440 volts (it also could have been 480 volts but I think this one was a 440 panel at that time.
Yes it would have to be 440 because 480 is for electric motors and we were working on a broadcasting panel which likely would be 440 instead of 480 because we weren't wiring for electric motors of that size then.
Luckily, the burns on my face all healed up and my eyes stopped hurting from the flash after a few days and I could go back to work with my Dad that summer doing electrical work.
My father grabbed my arm and led me over to stairs where he had me sit down because I couldn't see so he could get KCET back on the air because I had blown out the main breaker on their main panel and blown the station off the air then. This likely would have been between 1960 and 1963 during the summer time.
