Gaelic is an adjective that means "pertaining to the Gaels". As a noun, it refers to the group of languages spoken by the Gaels, or to any one of the languages individually. Gaelic languages are spoken in Ireland, Scotland, and the Isle of Man. When used without any modifier, "Gaelic" generally refers to Scottish Gaelic. The Irish language is generally known simply as Irish, and likewise Manx, which is a Gaelic language with Norse elements, is known simply as such.
