It says it's 80 degrees here but it feels much hotter where I am looking from the top of a mountain in the Santa Barbara area. It feels much hotter simply because it is the afternoon sun without the Santa Ana Winds which gave one the illusion of it being cooler yesterday. I grew up in Glendale from ages 8 to 21 so I know it's going to be really hot there on a day like today.
High today Los Angeles 91

" Palm Springs 118
" San Fernando Valley 106
" Orange 91
" Sacramento. 92
" Redding 89
" San Diego 83
So, it's pretty warm everywhere in California about now. So, be careful out there if you aren't used to this.
When I grew up in Glendale 110 to 115 degrees wasn't unusual then but it would have been unheard of to see these temperatures this early in season like we are seeing now. They shouldn't really be this hot until maybe August, September or even October. June is not supposed to be this hot.
People didn't have air conditioners in cars or homes much then during the 1960s, mostly swamp coolers which are water running down through straw and sucking air through the water and straw and cooling the home through evaporation. So, your home often smelled like Wet Straw but you didn't care because at least it was cooler than outside.
