Why did Biden withdraw U.S. Troops and equipment from Afghanistan? I'm thinking that the Covid Crisis worldwide has changed everything. Supply chains of all kinds (especially food and medicine) are being disrupted all over the globe.
Also, leaving troops in Afghanistan also exposes them to more potential Covid Variants that they might accidentally bring home with them to their American Families and friends. Also, it's been the longest war that the U.S. has been involved in (if you don't count what is still happening in South Korea since the 1950s. But, the main difference is the South Koreans pay the U.S. to help protect them too and have become a very successful and westernized country whereas in Afghanistan the Afghan troops tend to switch sides a lot from Taliban to Government troops and back again depending upon who pays them the most.
Why?
Because the present government in Afghanistan is corrupt like every government there for as long as I can remember. Because of this Afghan troops will switch to being Taliban Troops so they aren't murdered if they have to surrender to the Taliban. So, just joining up with the Taliban often will keep them and their families and friends alive.
This is just the way it really is over there.
Strategically it has been this way for thousands of years so far. The least corrupt government in Afghanistan was probably the U.S. supporting whoever was in power there. But, they cannot survive without the U.S. propping them up for a variety of reasons.
So, likely Afghanistan might become another Caliphate like in Iraq a while back, with western powers bombing the armies of the Taliban ongoing but with no U.S. troops on the ground there.
This is pretty likely unless some other solution is found by Western Powers to deal with the Taliban there.
