Cutting Gas Supplies to Europe could be a part of Putin's Wartime Strategy for Ukraine

Why else would he cut gas supplies to Europe unless he wants to invade Ukraine?

I don't see the logic of it when Russia is totally economically dependent (as a Government) on the oil and gas it sells otherwise. 

So, it seems more like a war time strategy more than anything else.
