If the car or truck you are driving isn't handling right while driving in California, slow down or stop and get out and see if the ground is shaking. When you are driving a car sometimes it's hard to tell what is going on. But, once the ground starts shaking driving in a car at any speed above about 10 or 20 miles per hour can be fatal if the quake is bigger than a 5.0 or a 6.0. This is why you want to stop the car or truck and just stand there to feel the ground and to watch what is happening around you.
However, if you are in heavy traffic there might be other people really freaked out so make sure they don't hit you in their confusion. So, do whatever you need to to survive the situation.
Maybe it's best to just stop your car or truck to the right side of the road wherever you are. If there is an earthquake bad enough you are going to feel it then just sitting in your car or truck. Riding an earthquake out in a car or truck you have suspension and springs and the car or truck will tend to protect you from getting hit by other cars and trucks with freaked out drivers not knowing what is going on either.
