In Hawaii, raindrops are usually much bigger than in California

What this means in real time is that you can literally be in the rain a few seconds and be soaked to the bone so to speak. However, if your clothes are funky or you are in your bathing suit you don't mind because the rain is usually at 75 degrees or more in Temperature, so often you are not even cold at all.

I remember one time in Waianapanapa State Park that my family had been snorkeling so we were already in our bathing suits and the rain came down so hard that you almost couldn't see and we ran for our rental window van that could seat all of us. But then we all started laughing because it was warm instead of cold and nothing was getting ruined because we had all been snorkeling anyway. This state park is near Hana on the road to Hana by the way in Maui. It is a Black Sand beach sort of state park that is very beautiful in many ways and relatively remote away from most population centers.

So, we all just stood there laughing in the rain so hard it was actually like taking a warm shower more than anything else. When the rain finally stopped we all dried off and changed clothes and drove back towards Kahului where the main Airport on Maui and then past that towards Lahaina Area where we were staying then in that side of the Island.

From Lahaina and Kaanapali which is just north of Lahaina you can take various kinds of boats out for sightseeing or snorkeling various places as far away Lanai Island. We went to Lanai on giant Zodiaks which have two inflatable pontoons so you can travel at very high speed across the water as long as the swells aren't too large or choppy then. The giant Zodiaks carry about 45 or 50 people to dive spots on Lanai and Molokini which is a crescent shaped underwater volcanic cone that is a good place to snorkel and dive at. Another thing people like to do there is to take boats out to watch the humpback whales during certain seasons of the year.
