Though it is much less likely to put people in the hospital there will be so many cases that it could cripple society worldwide temporarily

 I guess the whole idea would be you wouldn't want everyone to get it at the same time because there would be literally no one available to take care of anyone if this happened.

So, I guess the idea would be to keep some people that wouldn't be exposed so that when you need them they could be ready to help (until they too got infected).

So, somehow you need to people get Omicron in shifts in any given area so the area doesn't just shut down from no one able to work at all because they are all sick or infected and have to quarantine at the same time.
