What was it like to grow up in the 1950s and early 1960s?

I was born after World War II a few years so by 1952 I was 4 and we moved to San Diego, California to first Vista California where I started Kindergarten there and rode the bus to school by myself then. The thing I had the most trouble with was them wanting me to take a nap which I hadn't done for at least 2 years by then. I didn't take naps during the day like some children do and did.

So, the hardest thing for me to do was to lie still while some kids conked out while being forced to lay on our Beach towels that we brought from home for padding on the tile or wooden floors of the kindergarten school room there in Vista.

Then the 2nd half of Kindergarten we moved to El Cajon because my parents found a house with a big backyard to rent and I made friends with Danny Barsocks and his sister across the street. I went to Kindergarten with Danny Barsocks and his dog bit me in the stomach one day but luckily the dog didn't draw blood but left teeth marks in my stomach area. I learned to ride my 24 inch bike there which was really big to me then. I had to stand on a block of wood about 8 inches high to get on the bike. But, as soon as I started riding I was gone away riding down the street and far away with Danny Barsocks.

My first favorite TV program was one I could only watch and Danny's house which was Superman with George Reeves. We were pretty impressed with superman being "Faster than a speeding bullet' and watched this program carefully and pretended we were superman sometimes too. I loved the Apricots and when they were ripe on the Apricot tree in our back yard Danny Barsocks and I would climb the tree and pick them.

But then, my parents moved again because they were put in charge of a church in Los Angeles and sadly I never saw Danny Barsocks and his sister every again. I think we would have stayed best friends if we hadn't moved to Tujunga, California up against the mountains in the Los Angeles area.
