2 different friends of mine are able to grow 70% of what they eat on 2 1/2 acres of land each in Mt. Shasta

It's true they both have green houses for the winters to keep certain things going like carrots and potatoes I believe. (not completely sure) but year around they have organically grown food. One of their acreages is solar powered and one is not but both have well water so they are basically self sustaining with properties paid for so that only property taxes are due yearly. This is a relatively inexpensive way to live once you get your property and house paid for by the way. So, in this sense they are prepared for a nuclear holocaust somewhat with 70% of their food grown right on their 2 1/2 acres of land each.

It's true if you have 2 1/2 acres of land you could mostly 70% feed yourselves if it is just 2 of you or 1 of you there. However, if you have more people than that you might want 5 to 10 acres of tillable land and solar power and a well depending upon the number of people you are trying to feed year around. And solar power is helpful if the grid goes down from Cyber Warfare or nuclear weapons or whatever in the next few years. And you also want a gas or diesel generator for when it's cloudy for too long to keep your solar batteries charged up.
