It was a difficult trip by bus from New Delhi, India to Pokhara, Nepal even though it was a very fancy bus by Indian Standards then. One of the problems was that even though the Air Conditioner worked and it was hot outside, they tried to keep us in the bus without air conditioning while they fixed a broken leaf spring in the back of the bus. They had over loaded the bus with both people and goods on the roof and this caused the breaking of a leaf spring in back. So, we watched men make a custom leaf spring outside our bus window. We all got out of the bus because we were too hot without air conditioning in the bus but then people who had never seen white people before came (about 10,000 of them) and wanted to see our green or blue eyes and touch our hair or the arm hair of lighter skinned people. Finally, the police came because most of these people had never been to school and so could be unpredictable so they made us get back on the bus before something bad might happen I guess. Eventually, the bus was fixed and we drove relatively uneventfully India Nepal from wherever we were along the way. Then I met my friend who had been waiting a couple of weeks in Kathmandu for us to arrive from India. He had either bought or rented (I think he might have bought) the bicycle and had gotten to know the city a lot and had planned to climb one of the mountains there. He and I had been mountain climbers when I was in my 20s including rock climbing. But, because I was a family man with kids from 10 to 14 I didn't mountain climb over 10,000 feet in elevation much anymore. So, he found other westerners to climb Langtang I think it was called in Nepal.
