Enlightenment is a real thing. How do you become enlightened?

There is a sort of story or joke that kind of says it all.

A man and a woman who were young went to the Himalayas to meet a wise enlightened man in a Cave there.

When they go there they asked him: "What is the Secret of life?"

He said, "Good Decisions!"

And the couple asked him: "How do you learn to make good decisions?"

He said, "Bad Decisions!"

Here in a nutshell is the key to enlightenment which is learn from your mistakes so you can become enlightened and help not only yourself but others become enlightened too!

However, in addition to this simple story there is:

"Learning to have compassion for yourself and all beings in the universe" 

Though the story is also true if you don't learn first to have compassion for yourself and all others it really doesn't mean anything at all.

Because without compassion for yourself and all life in the universe you will never become enlightened.
