I was listening to Rachel Maddow on MSNBC tonight talk about the democratic candidate for president in 1924 William McAdoo who was openly supported by the Klan then. He married President Wilson's daughter while he was in the White House. A plank in the convention tried to ban the KKK from the Democratic Convention. There was brawling, (fisticuffs) in the Convention by people for and against this plank. Ultimately the anti-KKK plank was voted down by only 1 vote.
The Baltimore sun had a headline on Sunday June 29th 1924 which said: "Anti-Klan plank loses by 541 3/20 of a vote to 542 3/20 of a vote; rotous scenes mark roll call"
Then on Independence Day (july 4th) 20,000 Klansmen amassed across the Hudson river in New Jersey to burn crosses and punish effigies of Al Smith. (who was McAdoo's competition for the nomination). But, Al Smith was Catholic and the Klan has always been Anti-Catholic, anti-Jewish and Anti-Black.
The couldn't get to electing a candidate and so it went on for 16 days.103 ballots later, a record they couldn't pick McAdoo or Al Smith and so just gave up and picked someone else called "John Davis" out of the blue. So, instead Calvin Coolidge, a Republican was elected.
As far as the eye can see in August of 1925 there are fully hooded Klansmen marching down Pennsylvania avenue in Washington DC.
IN September 1926 the Klan decided to do this even bigger and turned out 50,000 Klansmen marching down Pennsylvania Avenue this time. 50,000 masked robed Klansmen marched through Washington DC.
The Klan Flyer said, "Native-born Protestant Americans" were being "assaulted by Roman Catholic Police of New York city.
(This by the way was in the Washington Post February 29, 2016) So, 1000 KKK fought with the New York Police force that day. Luckily, no one died from their injuries that day. IN may of 1927 1000 Klansmen fought with the New YOrk city police force. They were aided by assorted Fascists (who eventually likely joined with Hitler in Germany).
I think it is important to understand that fascists don't believe in democracy (unless you consider that any elections held don't allow jews, Blacks or Catholics or any other religion to vote.
The only ones allowed to vote would be protestant Christian Males who are white and that's all.
So, fascism does what Trump is now doing by suppressing the Black vote and any other kind of vote he doesn't like.

By the way when the 1000 Klansmen fought with Catholic Police in New York City one of the 7 men arrested by police was Fred Trump, Donald Trump's father. So, Fred Trump was a member of the KKK and was arrested then by the police as one of the 7 arrested on May 1927.

When told of the old report surfaced last year Donald Trump vehemently denied his father's arrest even though the police still have a record of his father's arrest to this day.
One headline from that day: "Two fascisti die in bronx, klansmen riot in queens, in memorial day clashes."
By the way, once again it might be important here to say that the KKK, White Supremacists and Fascists here in the U.S. have ALREADY killed 68 people just since 9-11.
You might say that's not many but here's the thing: Jihadis have only killed 95 here in the U.S. during the same time.
Think about this for a moment.
Then read about Timothy McVeigh in the 1990s who killed 168 people and injured 600 on one day with an
ammonium nitrate fertilizer and nitromethane truck bomb in front of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City on April 19, 1995.[5]
This was the single largest killing of U.S. citizens by any terrorist (but he was a white nationalist terrorist then) in the history of the U.S. until 9-11 happened 6 years later. McVeigh was taking revenge for what happened at Waco, Texas.
