As an intelligent person you can see it is logical to develop compassion for yourself simply to overcome the damage being "PUT DOWN" did to your subconscious growing up. We see in mass murderers people who never learned compassion for themselves or others. If you let the abuse you suffered growing up stay there and fester in your subconscious one day you might be a danger to yourselves or others too.
Developing compassion for oneself and others is an effort to "Take Command" of one's life and to teach oneself not to be a victim.
It is taking responsibility even when no one around you is. It is taking responsibility for everything one has dealt with in life by saying: "The Buck Stops here!" "I'm not going to wallow in victimization the rest of my life and wind up one of these crazies going berserk and killing people or myself. Instead I'm going to make something of myself and be of use to myself and all mankind!"
It is a strong stand that one takes like a soldier where you say, "I"m going to learn compassion for myself and all others any way I can." It is a warlike stand you take as an adult to protect not only yourselves but everyone around you.
This is the stance of Civilization.
Civilization is being an adult enough to be kind to yourself and others.
That is what civilization is actually all about.
It is billions of people around the world deciding compassion for themselves and others is more important than being crazy and self destructive and harming oneself and others.
Civilization is ONLY really about compassion for yourselves and others. That's all it really is in the ideal!
Without civilization we are all animals going berserk like mass murderers!
This is why learning compassion for yourselves and others is the single most important thing you likely will ever do!
