Understanding your personal psychology

Each of us have different traumas and attributes. Most of us know our fears many of which started in childhood. But, during these times it is important to observe what is happening to us.

The primary thing that often happens to people in a shelter in place situation like this is what I would call "Sensory Deprivation".

What I mean by this is the stimulations like going to restaurants and theaters and driving long distances for recreation or business or both might not be happening now.

So, observing our behaviors and dreams might be important.

But, the worst thing to do is to allow yourself to panic.

But, also trying to stuff your feelings and just "tough it out" isn't always useful either.

All human beings are both much stronger than we believe we are but also in other ways more fragile than we might believe ourselves to be too.

So, learning to psychologically, physically and spiritually care for ourselves will be extremely important during these times here on earth if we want to stay mentally and physically and spiritually balanced through all of this.

One way I have been addressing this is I went back to 1970 which was probably the worst year of my life when I was a young man and the hardest for me to physically and psychologically survive.

This might be a good place to start simply because if you survived something really difficult before the strength you gained from surviving that can also help you now as well survive all this.

The problem is: None of us fully know what the future will bring. We have some idea that the U.S. will figure a way through this just like our forebears made it through everything since 1620 with the Pilgrims off the Mayflower. We are a tough bunch we Americans.

But, we have grown much softer than the 1950s group I grew up with because many of you have never really seriously suffered before because of all the wealth in the U.S. from the 1950s through the 1970s or so and since.

So, we are sort of like living in Disneyland here compared to most countries now on earth.

I was listening to the head of the UN who works with feeding the hungry world wide on PBS NEWSHOUR today

And he said that instead of 136 million starving this year there are now because of Covid-19 about 250 million that likely will starve to death this year.

In fact, he said it is presently so bad that 30,000 could start dying every day around the world especially in places like Yemen. And if the Coronavirus ever hits there hard it will be an unfathomable disaster.

Also, after hearing about the problems in Ecuador in Guayaquil and in Kenya with people panicking around food and near riots or more beginning now we have a lot to be thankful for with people who are well educated and self disciplined for the most part.

So, being grateful for what we have here in the U.S. is a good start because other parts of the world are already a disaster that can only get much worse and everyone is worrying whether many countries will have any government at all left when this end whenever that is.

So, food distribution is the single most important part of all of this because people start rioting after going without food for about 3 days time worldwide. This is historical by the way.

So, if you know of people that don't have food to eat try to help them by calling them on the phone and telling them where the local food banks are so they don't starve.

I know many people are very proud and have never collected unemployment compensation and things like this. But, if you don't accept help now you and your families might die or have serious mental or health problems or both. So this isn't a good time to be proud. It's a good time to get food and have your family survive! whether you are working for your food or not your family still needs to eat or they won't survive this.
