Antibiotics and insecticides when they were invented seemed like at the time one of the best inventions ever. However, both these things in the long run could be one of the factors in eventual human extinction.
You might ask, "Why am I lumping antibiotics and insecticides into the same grouping?" I think I'm doing it to try to help people to see both these things in a similar light. The real problem with both of these things is that bacteria and insects (because of their extremely short life cycles) adapt to change much much faster biologically than do humans. So, antibiotics create Super Bacteria that could eventually create a pandemic that could kill everyone. And insecticides create superbugs that can eat any poison biologically. Whereas humans will tend to just die out more as stronger insecticides are used and get further nervous system problems from being exposed to insecticides that cannot fully be washed off their food. So, it could be said that by using antibiotics and insecticides that we are slowly creating our own extinction by the superbacteria and superbugs that we inevitably create. Though billions of bacteria die from antibiotics and billions of bugs die from insecticides the ones that survive will likely wind up being eventually fatal to the human race. So, this is one of the problems of short term thinking that has been especially true during the 20th Century in the Western World.
So, I think it is important for the whole human race to try to think about, "What is going to keep civilization and human bodies alive for thousands and millions of years?"
Without this type of thinking being taught in High Schools and Colleges around the world the human race isn't going to be around a few hundred years from now.
Note: I was feeling angry tonight because 2 weeks ago I started a No Carbohydrate diet. Then one week ago I got very sick because my immune system was compromised by the No Carb diet. Now I have to take a strong antibiotic so I don't go deaf like my friend almost did earlier this year from a cold like this. The whole thing I find at this point to be very irritating and I feel angry. However, I also know that if I can get angry I'm also getting better too and not just exhausted from being sick with a bad cold. So, I guess I should be happy I didn't get bronchitis or pneumonia and only had to go to the doctor and not to the hospital. So, I'm trying to channel my feelings of anger in a positive direction and trying to get in touch with the gratitude I should be feeling that I survived this whole thing with lungs and ears intact. Thank you God!
