The reason for this is that most people are paying into it all their lives through their jobs and only get Social Security Benefits at 62, 65 or around 70 years of age. So, saying it is an entitlement is incorrect because most people have paid money into this from the time they were 15 and started their first part time job like me or whenever they started their first non cash job in the world that Social Security was deducted from on a regular basis the rest of their lives.
Throughout the 1940s, 1950s, 1960s and beyond the U.S. Government has been "Borrowing" the money gathering for recipients that they have been paying into since the 1930s. So, the real reason that Social Security will go bankrupt around 23 years from now is government borrowing or stealing from the funds put into Social Security since the 1930s by all working U.S. Citizens. Since borrowing means the Government would eventually pay back into the Social Security fund and this has never happened I think saying that the government has stolen from people's investments into Social Security might be a better way to put it.
So, calling Social Security an Entitlement is sort of like the government saying, "We are just going to forget all the money we took out of the Social Security Fund for other things in Government since the 1940s and 1930s and just call it an entitlement."
This is sort of like Calling Genocidal Massacres, Ethnic Cleansing. So, because of what I'm outlining here Social Security has always been a benefit that we have paid for when we work. Otherwise, it is just money stolen from Social Security for other things and the government is trying to hide what it did all those years and then they are going to call it an Entitlement to fool you about the truth.
