I think (I haven't read the book yet) he is trying to get someone to build a relatively perfect mental clone of a human being in machine form. I think the thought is: "What if everyone had a mental robotic clone of one complete human being (or more) in say their "IPhone". So, a voice like SIRI would have the intelligence of a human being with all the resources that a human with a college degree in one or more fields would have.
Kurzweil believes that this will cost $1000 or less by the early 2020s.
