The Philippines and Coconuts for survival

Yes. Just coconuts can keep you alive even if you get nothing else. However, you have to pick them right off the trees and then you have to eat them at all stages from pure water to the custard stage for this to work. Also, they are a good source of sweet purified water too. So, it is possible just to eat coconuts for several months or longer and survive just on the coconut water and coconut pulp in all the different stages as you pick them right off the coconut palms any way you can.

1. you can put a small rope between your two feet and climb one,
2. you can throw rocks at coconuts in the palms
3. If the coconut palm is closer to the ground just walk up and twist one off or cut it off with a machete.

I have had people climb coconut palms for me and cut or twist them off. Though I like climbing trees I was in my late 30s before I started wanting to harvest coconuts. Also, don't stand under a coconut palm tree with coconuts in it unless you want your skull crushed eventually. It's just not a good idea to stand under a coconut palm any time there are coconuts in it unless you are watching them all the time while doing this so you can get out of the way if one gets loose. Because they can come out of the palm at any moment without warning.

Though during Typhoon Haiyan most ripe coconuts would have been lethal missiles in the winds to any mammal including humans, any that were small enough not to be dislodged (likely fist size or smaller then during the Typhoon might now be ready to be harvested or soon will be because of all the rain they are getting in the Philippines now.
