I enjoyed this movie a lot. Some of the special effects were so well timed that it brought tears to my eyes. So, the timing was amazing. But, of course this is Disney magic and Disney has bought the Star Wars Franchise too.
My 17 year old didn't like it because she didn't find the dark elves believable. So, this movie is sort of like mixing dungeons and dragons with Odin and Thor in that sense. But maybe, dark elves are a part of the Odin and Thor legends too, I don't know for sure.
I found it! Black Elves are what they were called. I think they updated the term because "dungeons and Dragons" uses the term Dark Elves. So, likely this is why they changed it from Black Elves to Dark Elves.

Also, I liked the attempt to demostrate Dark Matter through the "Ethers" or "Aethers". Though Dark Matter isn't really dark (you just can't see it) scientists know it composes 96% of the known universe. Everything else: Matter, antimatter and all other particles and things compose only 4% of the known universe. So, likely Dark Matter doesn't have time or space as we know it because we can't see it, we just know it's there. So, right now demonstrating dark matter is a problem for scientists other than just knowing it is really there from experiments conducted so far. It's true nature, however, as far as I know has not been discovered. However, my own experience as a soul traveler tells me it doesn't really have either time or space and is not only matter but a combination of matter, antimatter and everything else presently unknown about both the known and unknown universe.
So, I thought it was fun for the writers to attempt to tie Dark Matter with Dark Elves (Black Elves in ancient Norse Odin Legends). Also, it appears Odin and Thor are useful metaphors for much that humans deal with philosophically and even scientifically in their lives. Understanding them likely will help us better understand in the future what "Dark Matter" (a terrible name for 96% of the universe) actually is.
