They have signs that say: "Nene crossing near where they tend to hang out on Haleakala Crater.
The nay nays have a different coloration than regular Canadian Snow Geese so they must have flown to Hawaii a really long time ago. But, because they don't fly they are vulnerable to things like dogs. So, I think they try to breed them in captivity now to keep them from going extinct.

We saw a flock of nene’s (pron. nay-nays), the wild Hawaiin geese. Why they live up there at the volcano, I do not know, but there are “nene crossing” signs everywhere!
