President Obama has said if Assad shoots down any U.S. drones or planes with his Military that Obama would end his air defenses as a direct result. However, this might be a part of ISIS' plans and to "fake" a Syrian Shootdown of an American Aircraft. If so, this would trigger the U.S. ending Syrian Air defenses permanently and would allow ISIS to take Assad's territory completely and to genocide Assad and all his Alawite people and other minorities.
IF ISIS has beheaded the two Americans and 1 Brit with this intention Assad would be lost whether he actually ordered an attack on American Aircraft or not. And the end result likely would be an Alawite and other minorities genocide including any Christians, Yazidis or Turkmen or others in this region still by ISIS. This also likely would mean that ISIS would take control of Damascus and Allepo.
Because what Assad presently has going for him is technology like Tanks and planes and helicopters. Without the planes and helicopters he likely would be very vulnerable not only to ISIS but also to moderate Sunni Rebels.
