I was watching Fareed Zacharia GPS this morning and he introduced a fellow called Sam Harris who wrote a book called: "Waking up": A Guide to spirituality without religion".
It appears some kind of verbal altercation occurred on Bill Mayer's show regarding Islam when Sam Harris said something like "300 million Sunni Muslims want to kill everyone who doesn't join their Sunni Muslim religion."
Fareed disagreed with this notion because he was raised in India where there are both Muslims and Hindus a lot.
Sam Harris then came on Fareed's show and said that "300 million Sunni Muslims are Islamists" which means they hold the point of view of "No religion but my religion" so from that point of view Shia Muslims, Christians and and other groups including agnostics and atheists must join the Sunni Muslims at some point or else. But, what he said is that not all Islamists believe in killing everyone directly. They just won't tolerate any other religious point of view than their own.
However, I would have to also say that many Christians around the world won't tolerate any other point of view than Christian ones too. So, this isn't that surprising for "dyed in the wool" fundamentalists who are Christian, Muslim, Hindu or even Buddhists like in Burma where Muslims are sometimes kept in concentration camps now to protect the locals from their "Aberrant point of view". And this is a Buddhist country.
However, I'm not sure I agree with this 300 million Sunni Muslim Islamists figure. I think I agree more with the CIA figure which is 10 to 11 million Islamists whose boys and girls are fueling ISIS at 1000 a month new soldiers flocking there now.
To the best of my ability I write about my experience of the Universe Past, Present and Future
