Your compassion when you feel or generate it reaches all time and space and often if you let it the compassion for all life in all time and space throughout the universe and beyond comes back upon that compassion to you as well. And so it becomes an ever increasing generator of compassion throughout your lives if you wish.
The Christmas Season is an important time to generate compassion because of how many people tend to contemplate suicide during this time. If you know someone struggling to choose to stay alive during this time send them prayers of compassion to strengthen their resolve to stay alive through this Christmas season. Where I live many have already killed themselves for one reason or another already. So, to keep more from taking their lives it is helpful to send compassionate thoughts in their direction.
People commit suicide because of feeling hopeless, that they cannot find a life they choose to live so they kill themselves. However, suicide (unless one is terminally ill) is usually a very selfish act.
I myself had to face suicide from age 21 to age 24 or 25 when my son was born. I could not be selfish enough to commit suicide then so I was fine after that.
I stayed alive by realizing as an only child how harmful it would be for my parents if I took my own life and also realized how much it would harm all the people I loved and who loved me as well.
So, I forced myself to stay alive even when I felt I had zero reasons to stay alive for myself. When I had my son starting when my girlfriend and then wife became pregnant I could no longer be selfish enough to think I could take my life. So, I had joy in staying alive to raise my son right and eventually all the rest of my children.
So, my life became a life of service to others which has brought me great joy. After my son was born I began a few years later starting businesses to more efficiently support my children. I found great happiness in living for others rather than not living for myself.
So, often people who consider killing themselves just need someone to take care of so they don't get bogged down in self destruction.
So, being compassionate to people struggling is very important right now in the Christian world because the most people in Christian countries tend to commit suicide between now and the New Year. They cannot sometimes survive the deaths of loved ones they felt they could not live without either through deaths or some kind of loss. So, sending your compassion to them personally by calling them on the phone and telling them you care about them or just by praying for them or if you don't believe in God simply thinking about them in a loving compassionate way will help them stay alive another day.
However, they must choose to accept your compassion which many in their self centered martyrdom state of mind might not be able to very well. But, keep talking to them and praying for them or just send them loving thoughts if you don't believe in God because Compassion reaches all time and space.
Become a generator of compassion which helps prevent the suicide eventually of the whole human race. We live in very strange times now and I worry not only for the ones who are suicidal now but for millions of people during the next 20 years or so of times that remind me a lot of what happened in the late 1930s and early 1940s.
So, thinking about all mankind with compassionate thoughts or prayers might help mankind better survive these times we are going through worldwide right now as well.
Though I was born a Mystical Christian there is a specific prayer for compassion for all beings in the universe including humans, animals, birds, fish etc. which is Om Mani Padma Hum which invokes compassion.
Since this mantra has been given by millions and millions of people for over 1000 years already and possibly goes back to Buddha himself over 2500 years ago it has a great power that all can tune into whether or not they believe in God. So, no matter what you believe the power of compassion of thousands of years you can join with by saying this mantra out loud or quietly saying it in your mind as well.
Because just remember:
Compassion reaches all time and space. And the compassion of all time and space reaches back to you as well and makes your life worth living too.
