The problem right now with Russia is Putin. However, Putin is still getting about an 80% favorability rating from the average Russian. This combination is pretty deadly for the world right now.
So, what does someone like Putin do when the Ruble is dropping so precipitously and sanctions remain against Russia?
He vilifies the rest of the world especially, Europe, the U.S. and any other countries sanctioning Russia. Since he has control of the news media in Russia and basically keeps out western news from all but the most hardened Internet denizens searching for unbiased world news, he might just succeed with the common man and woman in Russia. If Putin can get them to believe the world is completely persecuting Russia and Russians and that everything happening ISN"T somehow Putin's fault, then the world is in really great trouble because he will mobilize the whole middle and lower class for a war against the western world.
And unfortunately, this looks exactly like what is happening right now.
