The likely answer to this is "Yes". Yemen is a very uneducated place and among people who aren't very educated rumors become facts. And Al Qaeda is using rumors to gain many converts there. Attacks on Paris would also bring new Sunni converts into the Al Qaeda fold in Yemen. Also, Al Qaeda is letting the Houthis win in Sanaa in order to gain more converts. In this way they can let the Houthis (Iran and Shia backed) destroy the government, gain new converts and pick up the pieces themselves.
Also, Yemen is also a way to destroy the government of Saudi Arabia too which is one of the goals of both ISIL and Al Qaeda. So, the destruction of Yemen is the key to destroying the government in Saudi Arabia which the world should be looking at right now because even though the U.S. is the number one oil producer in the world, Saudi Arabia is number 2.
If Al Qaeda, ISIL and Iran succeeded in destroying together the government of Saudi Arabia, the world would be in a very bad fix oil wise at that point. However, what that would do is make the U.S. and Russia very rich as a direct result oil wise and the rest of the world very poor because of it.
Militarily, Iran is better prepared for a long war than any other middle eastern country right now. It has positioned itself this way. The only exception to this might be Turkey. So, there could be a time when all governments in the Middle east have fallen to ISIL except Turkey and Iran and then it is possible they would fight it out with nukes.
So, in the same way that Al Qaeda is letting the Houthi Shias in Yemen drum up converts to Al Qaeda in Yemen, Iran is letting ISIL (ISIS) and Houthis and Al Qaeda destroy Sunni governments across the whole middle east including ISrael.
At the same time IRan, Russia and Hezbollah are defending Assad's government to the death no matter what comes.
Crazy isn't it?
