The Importance of Being an Opportunist

Some people equate being an opportunist as being a dirty word.

However, I equate being an opportunist with survival itself.

Because if you are not an opportunist in relationships, in jobs, in adventures, in college, then likely you will never have any life at all. Because this is just life as it really is.

Life is what happens to you while you are making other plans.

Have you ever heard this?

It's true. At every stage of life this is true.

Life is not at all what you think it will be.

Even if you achieve just what you think you will (which is rare)
your experience of it will be completely different than what you think now.

For example, I decided at age 15 to 17 that I would become enlightened in this lifetime.

I succeeded in this.

But, my experience of this is now completely different than what I actually thought it would be then.

But, by being an opportunist, and taking every opportunity I saw to go to college, to get a job, to start a relationship, to travel to wherever I could, to research every possibility I became enlightened. And it's not over yet. I'm still becoming more enlightened every single day and I'm now in my late 60s.

Enlightenment is achieved even though opportunism. It will come in the most unexpected and amazing ways when you least expect it. You can be crying, laughing or even asleep when it comes to you some amazing and new realization about yourself and about your life.

Be an opportunist. Expect the unexpected. Become enlightened for your benefit and for all mankind.

Look for opportunities to grow, to be more compassionate to yourself and others.

Don't forget that being an opportunist is survival itself for both you and mankind.
