Food in South Korea

Nothing food wise is quite the same as the U.S. This is true in most countries that are far from the U.S. However, things like Macdonalds in South Korea is more similar thought usually more upscale than Macdonalds here. VIPs (They pronounce this BIPs) because they have no V sound in the Korean Language. There is a VIPS which is an American style restaurant on Jeju and in Seoul and in various places in South Korea. There is another chain that I saw in a wealthy area called Ashley's which is also good. However, things like Chicken and spaghetti is usually more spicy than in the U.S. so be aware of this. Ashley's also has vanilla ice cream and green tea ice cream. Also, on Jeju Island they grow Green Tea.

Paris Baguette is another South Korean chain is next to VIPS on Jeju Island near the airport. Also, Macdonalds  is also within site of Vips relatively near the main airport on Jeju Island also.

Also, something like baby wet wipes are given to you in little packages before or after a meal. The idea is to clean your hands either before or after a meal with the wipe. You will see this everywhere. So, if you see these little packages of 1 wet wipe that is what they are for when they give them to you.

We discovered another venue that was pretty good there near incheon Island in a very wealthy area where we stayed in a new Hotel that looks like a Buddhist Korean Hotel Palace kind of construction. We liked staying there as it had just opened and had huge bathtubs similar to the ones you see in Japan as well that whole families can bathe in together. It was made of cut granite which is everywhere in South Korea in the hills wherever you go. It was about 5 feet across by 8 to 10 feet across by 3 to 4 feet deep. My wife was really happy because this was the first bath she could take since a year ago last June since her knee replacement surgery(she had to only take showers all this time).

So, even though it took 30 minutes to fill the huge granite tub in the Hotel room with water it was worth it to see the smile on her face at floating in a huge granite tub. I made the water as hot as we could stand it to help our muscles relax from all the traveling. I can't pronounce the name because it was in Korean but we loved staying there because it had sliding paper and wood panels over the wooden doors and wooden windows to a private courtyard with plants growing. What is interesting about this place it is is surrounded by fancy High Rise Apartments and businesses 20 to 40 stories high. Since land is very expensive and since South Korea is one of the 3 most densely populated countries on earth and since literally people grow food everywhere there is any open land at all including between sidewalks and streets often, high rise apartments for rich and middle class are an option many younger people are choosing who don't want to be farmers who want to be more high tech and have more high tech Jobs.

For good Chicken Sandwiches there is a place called Mom's Touch which has many different kinds of chicken sandwiches served on Hamburger buns with pickles, tomatos and onions if you wish. Also their french fries are really great sort of like In and out Burgers french fries in California.

The Hotel we stayed Friday night at near Incheon Island where the International Airport is sort of looked a little like these Korean Buddhist Temples.
