While the Republican party in the House can't seem to agree on which end is up, Russia and Iran have taken on Syrian Rebels and Iran has taken on ISIS directly now even losing another Iranian General recently. This has changed significantly the balance of power in the middle East.
Obama is sitting back allowing this to happen and so is NATO. Why?
Syria in the end has belonged to Russia and the Soviet Union before that for at least 35 years in the Nuclear etiquette detente game. So, the U.S. in order to prevent an accidental nuclear war with Russia usually has mostly stayed out of Syria. Also, Russia has Iran too and the two of them are fighting Syrian REbels. Russia is fighting U.S. backed Syrian REbels and IRan is mostly fighting ISIS and losing generals and soldiers but not telling the folks back home about it much except the families of the Iranian Military getting death notices of their loved ones (who may have died in Syria or Iraq) they likely won't be told. Similar events are likely taking place in Russia too now that jets and tanks and soldiers are there in Syria and vulnerable to attacks of various kinds.
This is one reason that U.S. military Jets take off from Ships or from Turkey which is much safer for our military personnel there.
