Protester shot during anti-Donald Trump rally in Portland as thousands continue to picket election
A gunman was driving by the protesters as they crossed the Morrison Bridge near the downtown area around 1 a.m. The suspect, described as an African-American male in his late teens, got out of his car following a confrontation with a demonstrator and fired off several shots, striking the victim at least once.
The suspect sped off as officers rushed to provide medical aid.

There were only a few hundred protesters left at the time of the shooting and most scattered immediately after, cops said. Some remained at the scene and gave witness accounts to police.
Earlier in the evening, police hurled tear gas and flash-bang grenades at protesters after they threw “burning projectiles” at officers in riot gear. Demonstrators also disrupted traffic and covered buildings across downtown in graffiti.
Organizers had initially billed Friday's protests as peaceful, but authorities said the peace broke when protesters began vandalizing storefronts and setting street fires.

Armeanio Lewis, 20, a Portland native and a self-described anarchist, defended the rioters and told a crowd at a peaceful rally Friday afternoon that the vandalism was “in direct response to Trump being elected.”

Thousands of Americans angered over the election have taken to the streets over the past three nights, chanting “we reject the President-elect” while toting signs emblazoned with the words “Love Trumps Hate” and “Not my President.”
Isalina Sanchez, 24, of The Bronx, attended Friday night’s protests in Manhattan and said the President-elect poses an existential threat to her and her family.
“Every right that I stand for and everything that I am is challenged by Donald Trump,” she told The News.
