Why is it insidious?
Because none of us gave permission for all aspects of our privacy or personal life to be destroyed.
So, the insidious nature of the present technological singularity likely could be said to come from the microchip and the Internet.
In the 1950s (when I grew up) if people had snuck into your house and stolen your identity you likely would have shot them if you caught them in most states in the U.S. Problem solved.
Because your identity, your money, your valuables, and your children's future was sacrosanct to All Americans.
What has happened to people's lives, fortune and sacred honor in the U.S. and all over the world?
All that is gone now for all intents and purposes. You cannot count on your identity being protected. You cannot count on your credit cards being safe or even your ATM cards being safe. You might still count on your money (but only if you stuffed your mattress or walls with $20 bills or $100 dollar bills and didn't tell anyone about it.) Otherwise, everyone knows everything about you that they are willing to pay for worldwide.
This is the truly insidious nature of this Technological Singularity so far.
And knowing technology like I do this is only going to get 100 or 1000 times worse as we move into genetic engineering and behavior modifications etc. And at some point there will be no freedom to even think (let alone breathe) without a permit from a world Emperor. At present this is where we all are headed as of now unless we start changing things pretty soon.
To the best of my ability I write about my experience of the Universe Past, Present and Future
