But from about 5.0 or above we begin to get scared too, because if you aren't scared above a 5.0 then something is definitely wrong with you because this is when people are likely to die or get seriously injured.
But, we are also used to visitors during summers not used to earthquakes that might get hysterical over a 3.0 or a 4.0 or 5.0. But, I start getting scared at about a 5.0 or above and the adrenaline kicks in and I start to try to find out about family and friends at that point. That's not to say by the way that you can't get some real damage from anything over a 3.0 too if the jolt is close to the surface. So, the closer to the surface of the earth the more dangerous a quake becomes if it is centered around where people live.
