We have both ceanothus bushes and ceanothus trees. My thought is that if you leave a ceanothus bush alone long enough it might become a tree. For example, the one I was trimming to keep it out of our white and yellow roses has sort of merged with a young oak tree which confuses me in how I should deal with that joining. But, eventually I'll figure out what I want to do with them both. This particular plant is sentimental to my wife (this ceanothus because her favorite corgi loved to sit under it's shade on a hot bright days until she passed away in 2017 I believe. Soon after our other dog, a Yellow lab who was her male dog companion passed away too without her. So, we haven't had dogs now since spring 2017 so far except for a German Shepard puppy which we realized we weren't capable of raising at our present ages after a few weeks. You don't know what you know until you know it. The puppy now lives in Las Vegas with his new owner a German Shepard Trainer.
Note: All the Ceanothus in our yard whether shrubs or trees are evergreen.
Is ceanothus an evergreen?
