President Carter was defeated by Reagan because of Iranian Hostage Crisis
What happened was President Carter sent in a rescue force to get the American Hostages out of Iran. However, it ran into a sand storm (that's the story) and all the planes crashed and all on board died. Because of this Reagan beat President Carter in the Next presidential election. This is what actually happened. Then to make it worse the new Iranian government made a sort of peace with Reagan and gave him the American Hostages which was like rubbing salt in the wounds of the American people. Ever since that time Americans have searched for payback and a way to nuke Iran into a Moon Crater ever since 1980 and to end Iran permanently from the earth. This was the sentiment in the 1980s and continues to this day in many sectors of the military establishment especially at the Pentagon. That's why nuking 52 cultural sites in Iran might actually happen whether it is illegal or not as form of payback.
