Why?
Because the temperatures mostly stay under around 80 to 85 degrees Fahrenheit year around. And even an 80 degree day is maybe a few times in the late August or September. When the inland heats up it usually draws the fog off the ocean and cools everything down here.
So, on the northern California coast there are actually two winters. The colder winter is winter and the less cold winter is the summer which we call the "June Glooms".
However, the June Glooms can now start as early as April some years and go as late as October some years. So, Global Warming and Global Climate change is changing the coastal climate of all of California to a Greater or lesser degree everywhere.
