The smoke now reaches up into Canada and almost to Hawaii

Every day the smoke is more ominous on the maps. Like I said before where I live the temperatures are at least 10 to 20 degrees lower than normal for this time of year. What's strange is that we have what is called "The June Glooms" on the coast here but the last couple of years often this June Gloom can start as early as April and go as late as July or August because of Global Climate changes. But, the smoke from the fires has brought back the June glooms where we have very cold (for here) weather which to me is 58 to 60 degrees between 10 and noon for September when our weather should be at least 75 or 80 this time of year normally with full sun. The Fall and the Spring is usually the best weather and why people live on the northern California coast in the first place along with being near the ocean.

So, this is going to change weather patterns at least in the western states completely this year likely making temperatures 10 to 20 degrees lower for the foreseeable future. So, there are many unknowns about where all this is going now.

But, at least as California is concerned our fires could continue (these or new ones) until January or February if rains don't come before then. So, I wouldn't hold your breath regarding smoke not continuing another 6 months or so if we don't get rain in California by October or November.

Here are two ways to view the smoke:
