My most read post in the early days of this site 2007 to 2010 or 2011

This I remember was quite a surprise to me when I first realized this was my most read post. From about 2007 until around 2010 or 2011 I had thought people were more interested in other things than articles on flying here but I was wrong. I had soloed in a Cessna 152 in the late 1980s as I had promised never to get licensed as a pilot to my father until he passed away because his brother had likely passed away in his plane in 1942 which had devastated my father's whole family. As a result they were going to name me Tommy like his brother. However, they decided to name me after my Dad instead and put Tommy as my 2nd name instead. So, even though I periodically took glider pilot and hang gliding lessons and piloted Cessna 152s or Cessna 172s or Grumman low wing aircraft etc. I honored my father's wishes that I not get a license until he passed away in 1985. However, even in the late 1980s I only soloed because it was pretty expensive to fly and I was still putting kids through high school and college then so I honored my children instead of myself in not flying past soloing. But, as I spoke with more people who had bold fathers like myself, they told me I shouldn't be flying because I was too bold a person to survive flying. The people who survive as pilots are very methodical and not bold because "There are Old pilots and there are bold pilots but there are NO old bold pilots at all." YES. That's very true I'm very bold like my Uncle Tommy was so maybe I need to not be piloting planes and honor my family by staying alive here on earth as long as possible.
